Restoring financial integrity when payment settlements stopped matching the books.
The challenge
Production defects affecting payments, reversals, disputes, and related transaction activity caused differences between what the payment processor settled and what the back-office accounting platform generated into journal-entry batches. Deposits reaching the bank could be higher or lower than the corresponding accounting activity, creating major bank-reconciliation problems across multiple customers.
What I did
I worked directly with affected accounting teams to reconstruct activity across merchant statements, financial reporting and journal-entry batches, and customer-provided bank statements. I matched processor settlements to accounting activity, identified where the numbers stopped agreeing, and guided customers through corrective journal entries based on the underlying transaction history. While rebuilding individual reconciliations, I documented recurring patterns, created and escalated support cases, and collaborated with Development to help isolate the defects. As fixes were released, I continued validating current activity while helping customers resolve historical discrepancies.
The result
I helped more than a dozen customers return their bank reconciliations to balance and resume normal accounting operations. The work also contributed to identifying and escalating defects across payment, reversal, dispute, settlement, and accounting workflows.
